Jaguar Land Rover introduce noise-cancelling technology

Jaguar has now introduced noise cancellation technology that is set to provide new and improved Jaguar Safety properties. The latest technology to be introduced on the new Jaguar XF, Jaguar F-PACE, and new Range Rover Velar. Some of the key points to note include:

  • There is an active noise cancellation that helps to reduce and remove unwanted sounds from the cabin.
  • Reducing the low-frequencies noise exposure can lead to driver fatigue being minimized on longer journeys. Meaning that Land Rover safety has improved.
  • Driver reaction time can be increased by up to 16% because of being excessively tired or fatigued.
  • The active road noise cancellation feature measures the vibrations of the wheels then plays back noise cancellation through the in-car speakers.

Jaguar Land Rover has revealed the all-new noise cancellation technology. It removes unwanted tire and road sounds from within the cabin and provides a more refined and quieter experience for drivers and any passengers.

The technology has been introduced on the new Jaguar XF, Tange Rover Velar, and the new Jaguar F-Pace. It is capable of reducing any unwanted noise peaks by 10dB and other noise levels by 3-4 dB which is the same as turning down the in-car sound system by four notches. This is a significant reduction in the exposure for drivers to low-frequency noises by around  300Hz  which can help prevent driver fatigue on longer journeys.

When a driver is tired it can affect their ability to identify and deal with hazards or unexpected events when they drive. Tired and fatigued motorists have an average reaction time increase of 16.72% compared to fully alert drivers. Improving overall driver wellbeing and reducing accidents is a key part of the Jaguar Land Rover Safety journey to destination zero. They have an ambition to make societies healthier and safer as well as the environment cleaner by utilizing their relentless innovation.

Enabled by Silentium’s Active Acoustics technology, the Active Road Noise Cancellation, makes use of sensors of each of the wheels to constantly monitor the vibrations from the road surface. It then calculates the opposite phase sound wave needed to remove the noise that is heard by the occupants of the vehicle. Monitoring it in real-time, any unexpected noises from things such as pothole s rough surfaces can easily be removed and isolated.
The Meridan sound system plays the cancellation sound through the speakers. The technology also monitors the cabin occupancy so it is able to optimize the Active Road Noise Cancellation performance so that it is suitable for both the driver and passengers.

This state of the art technology offers a no-compromise solution to balancing vehicle weight, driving dynamics, and refinement for a completely premium feeling.

The active road noise cancellation partners perfectly with the Engine noise cancellation on the new Range Rover Velar with the P400e plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain to enhance the sense of wellbeing and the Jaguar F-Pace. This pioneering system alow the  P400e plug-in hybrid (PHEV)to be refined for a reduced CO2 emission and efficiency with no effect on the driver experience.
