Jaguar I-Pace Used In Wireless EV Charging Trial
A groundbreaking feat to be completed in Norway, using the innovative Jaguar I-Pace. The Jaguar I-Pace will be used as a taxi fleet in Oslo.
Oslo, the Norwegian capital, has recently launched a brilliant and groundbreaking initiative called ‘ElectriCity’. The Nordic country aims to have an utterly emission-free taxi system by 2024 and reduce overall emissions by 95% before 2030. And the Jaguar I-Pace is the car of choice to make that happen.
Tech firm Momentum Dynamics and the charge point tech firm Fortum Recharge have joined forces to install a large number of the wireless high-powered charge points for the v taxi fleet.
Jaguar Land Rover is proudly supplying 25 of the Jaguar I-Pace to the Cabonline tax firm in Osla. The innovative SUV has been specifically designed to incorporate the Momentum Dynamics wireless charging system. This revolutionary technology will see Oslo well on it’s way to meeting their 2024 goals.
Strategically placing chargers where the public typically waits for taxis, negates the need for drivers to make detours or extra stops to charge the fleet. This means the 25 Jaguar I-Pace fleet is incredibly time and cost-efficient. Each time the Jaguar I-Pace returns to the taxi rank, it can take advantage of the charging point.
There are no cables, and the system is below ground, which makes it safe for the public. What makes the technology so brilliant is that it requires zero contact between the charger and the vehicle. It will engage automatically and provides an average of 6-8 minutes of energy per 50kw.
The taxi industry makes the ideal test for the true capabilities of wireless charging and will demonstrate the ability of the high-mileage required for a taxi fleet.
What Makes The Jaguar I-Pace Ideal For The Job?
The Jaguar I-Pace is a beautiful SUV that is powered by electricity. But that isn’t the end of what the car has to offer. It makes the ideal taxi fleet car, due to its ample boot space, but that is precisely why it is perfect for family and business too.
But the boot isn’t the only area that it boasts space, the interior is cleverly designed to be spacious and comfortable. The Jaguar I-Pace uses two concentric electric motors - one for each axle to give the driver permanent four-wheel drive. If you can find a 100kW supply, you can charge your Jaguar I-Pace in as little as 45 minutes, or at home overnight for 10 hours on as low as a 7kW supply.
The Jaguar I-Pace is ideally suited to a modern lifestyle and those who are ready to enjoy a luxurious car model that is quite literally changing the automotive landscape in Norway.
